Share your babywearing story; win a wrap. :)
If you’ve been in the babywearing community for a while, you may remember the Gypsy Mama microfleece wraps. We retired them years ago because we had them out a bit before the babywearing community was ready for them — these days, I hear great things about Calin Bleu’s microfleece wrap, if you’re looking for one to purchase.
Anyway, I’ve had one left, in a grey with sage tones (as sage, really, is more grey than green), and it’s been sitting on a shelf gathering dust. I haven’t been sure what to do with it. But as the autumn weather envelops us, I’ve been thinking that a giveaway is in order.
Here’s your challenge. The Baby Carrier Industry Alliance has asked you to share your babywearing story. Post your story either on the BCIA share page (log in as a member first) or on your own blog and post the link here in the comments section, and we’ll enter you to win a our microfleece wrap, made from soft, durable Malden Mills microfleece, sewn with love by me.
We need to spread these stories far and wide. I would love for you to post the link to your story on your Facebook, your Twitter, your social networking sites.
And, if you’re not a member of the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance already, please strongly consider joining. I speak as the founder and chairwoman of the organization, and we badly need your help.
Happy story telling! Here’s the link to our story — not interesting, really, in the brief telling, because for us, the story of babywearing is the story of mothering; it’s woven into each moment, each day, each memory in the first 3 or 4 years of child’s life. And here is my husband’s story.
Thanks for your participation! Winners will be drawn on Friday as long as we have at least 25 participants. Please spread the word!

How generous! I would love that! My story is fairly simple and I would guess probably pretty universal. I had a baby and needed my hands back! The longer version, with pictures, is here: http://babywearingitup.blogspot.com/2010/10/babywearing-needs-you.html

I had a sling for my now 9 year old daughter and in the very beginning for my 3 year old son. I dont have one anymore as the one I had was stolen. While the weather is changing, it is harder for my son to walk distances outside with his asthma
he is 33 lbs and while that is pretty light, it can be hard on the arms and back for any lenght of time. please consider us for one of these wonderful wraps. Thank you, Sincerely, Becky

Becky,
Please put up a blog post or story and link to it here to be entered in the drawing. In the meantime, my first wrap cost less than $5 by going to the fabric store and purchasing 5 yards of cotton gauze on sale. And my back-up sling with my first child, now almost 11, when we could only afford one sling was a bedsheet. There are tons of great videos on youtube for tying a bedsheet into a sling. You can also check the thrift shops for a pashmina shawl, which I find very comfortable for carrying even bigger kids for short times.

My story is probably pretty normal. I needed a way to care for a rowdy 3 yr old and a needy newborn.

Our story isn’t super exciting, but I’m so glad we found baby wearing!
